Dolly's restaurants have better food than Frisch's

Early reviews are in and Dolly's Burgers and Shakes looks like a winner. Better than Frisch's, they say.

Scott Evans Littleton says, "I visited Dolly's Burgers and Shakes in Blue Ash and here is my honest review."

"I got their Signature burger (Big Boy).

"First, let's start with the burger. It was definitely fresh beef. The burgers are definitely bigger than I expected.

"Lettuce was fresh. It could have used slightly more signature sauce (tartar sauce). Overall it was very good.

"I upgraded the side to onion rings. It came with a very good zesty sauce They were very good. Fries and waffle fries were also an option. 9/10

"Now for the main event. The Hot Fudge Cake. This was actually near perfect.

"The whip cream tasted freshly made. The cake was the perfect consistency. And you get more icecream. It was constructed as expected. 9.5/10. "

Keith Pandolfi of Enquirer had good things to say. Here are some excerpts:

"The former Frisch's location in Anderson Township was packed with customers on Tuesday afternoon.

"I can't remember the last time I've seen this place so well staffed, so energetic and so ostensibly happy.

"The Big Boy is now called "The Signature" burger. It tastes about the same, but the beef patties are bigger, making it a meatier, as well as messier, burger than its predecessor.

"The fresh-cut fries were fine, though they transcended the ordinary when I added the 'Special Seasoning Salt' that sits among the condiments on each table

"Other takeaways: The chicken tenders are very good (juicy, crispy, perfect) and, unlike Frisch's, Dolly's has a grilled chicken sandwich on the menu.

"Big Boy classics such as the Swiss Miss and Brawny Lad are still available, but, so far, there is no vegetable soup or pumpkin pie on the menu.

"Oh, and the tartar sauce is not the same as the one you're used to.

"Against all odds, it seems a favorite restaurant has come back to life."

Big Boy brand to 'open 55 restaurants' in region before June

On Friday, a judge granted a temporary restraining order barring Michigan-based Big Boy from using the 'Big Boy' name on those restaurants formerly operated by Frisch's.

This week, Big Boy appeared to shift gears, opening two locations under the name of Dolly's Burgers and Shakes instead.

Dolly was the name of Big Boy's girlfriend in promotional comic books produced by the chain.

Big Boy brand and Frisch's are two entirely separate companies that operate the same brand, with similar menus and imagery.

Both serve the signature Big Boy burger but topped with a different sauce, for instance, and both feature slightly different versions of the baby-faced Big Boy mascot.

The court's restraining order against BBRG (Big Boy brand) was set to expire 14 days from March 7, at which point it will consider Frisch's request for a preliminary injunction.

The first Dolly's, meanwhile, opened Monday, promising to offer "the familiar flavors its parent company is known for," according to a statement from BBRG CEO Tamer Afr to local media outlets.

Dolly's signage, uniforms and other branded items are still "in production," Afr said, but the company wanted to get the restaurants open so employees could start working.

Here's the big news: Big Boy brand CEO Tamer told Cincinnati Enquirer that his company wants to reopen 55 closed Frisch's restaurants by June 1. All locations have yet to be announced, or Enquirer didn't ask.
